We just opened the door. They jumped out the window. Paris Associates has been getting some really great news lately. Two of our long time clients have been awarded honors in recent months.
Community magazine Reflet de Société, which we helped in its recent redesign has received a design award from the Association of Community Magazines. But that’s not all. They were recently awarded the Magazine of the Year by Magazines Quebec.
And then there is The Franchise. This on-air sports show on CJLO (1690 am Montreal) has been working hard to push the boundaries of MMA and local sports reporting. After a year on air they have be voted into the Montreal Mirror’s Best of Montreal in the category of Best Local Radio Show. This honorable mention is the first wave of accolades hosts Gary Whittaker and Nick Murdocco are set to win.
Expanding on the course work Paris Associates is doing, Magazines Canada has commissioned creative director, Aldo Parise to develop an editorial design seminar. This intensive one-day workshop explores the use of editorial flow, colour, grid systems and typography as tools for creating contrast and recharging the look of your magazine. In these tough economic times, how can you stand out in the crowd? Regardless of your budget, by focusing on solid design, you can create stronger layouts and more eye-catching covers — keeping readers hooked. You can get more info at the Magazines Canada site. (this seminar is offered in French)
In order to keep up with the fast-changing world of Creative Commons, Paris Associates site, August Project, is expanding it’s editorial and coverage of the commons. Set to relaunch in May 2009, it will allow for the upload of CC videos, photos and illustrations.
Canada’s food and wine magazine has been revamped. With new grids, typography and editorial styles, Tidings puts itself in line to compete with North America’s top culinary magazines.
Paris Associates continues its work with Magazines Canada. After working as a Traveling Consultant, creative director Aldo Parise developed Communicato, an editorial one-day intensive to help magazine and publication editors be able to communicate better with designers, web staff and publishers.
When Magazines Canada asked us to develop a seminar on monetizing web site and web 2.0, Creative Director Aldo Parise jumped at the chance. “There are a lot of misconceptions about analytics and how to generate revenue on an editorial based site or blog. It’s much easier than it sounds.”

We’ve put all the collective on the redesign of Tidings, Canada’s Food & Wine Magazine. Now Canada’s largest food and wine magazine — with close to 120,000 readers per issue — Tidings is looking to revamp not only its logo but all the interior pages of their print magazine. Knee deep in font selection, grid suggestions and organizing image placements, the whole group plans the launch the redesigned issue during what is traditionally the biggest issue of the year — October’s Maverick Chefs issue. Look for it on newsstands.
We’ve been working closely with CJLO as they work towards launching on 1690 am Montreal. Helping to develop shows like The Franchise, Naked Lunch, Faster Leonard Cohen. Die! Die! and Rein in August, Paris Associates has found their voice. You can catch a sample of the shows at augustproject.org.
When online DVD retailer, Oddity Cinema, was looking for a new identity, the Associates decided to take it one odd step further. We proposed starting a rich-media PDF custom magazine to help promote their growing line of DVDs and Oddity Cinema Magazine was born. After having created their promotional plan and new logo, Paris Associates put together an editorial style guide as well as the initial magazine design and art direction.
